Bluegrass for Babies Bluegrass Concert Returns to Sawyer Point

August 14, 2013 By FFCStaff

Giveaway Closed. Congratulations to FFC reader, Amanda! Check your email for details Amanda.

What could be more fun than spending the day with your family at beautiful Sawyer Point and listening to some great live music? How about if we also threw in lots of great activities for your kids to enjoy and tasty, healthy food?  OK… and then what if we told you it was all for a good cause like Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Hooked right?

So what event could be talking about?  Bluegrass for Babies’ annual bluegrass concert at Sawyer Point on September 21!

On Saturday, September 21, Bluegrass for Babies returns to Sawyer Point for its 5th annualBluegrass for Babies Crowd Shot 1 Bluegrass for Babies benefit concert. The concert will feature performances by some of the region’s top bluegrass bands, plenty of family-friendly activities, a variety of vendors, local and organic concessions and more.

Launched in 2009, the concert started as a way for founders Matt and Anne Schneider to give back to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, which had provided life-saving surgery to their then newborn son. That year the couple repurposed their annual backyard bluegrass party, moving it to Seasongood Pavilion in Mt. Adams and then eventually to Sawyer Point.

In celebration of its 5th anniversary, Bluegrass for Babies has brought together a concert lineup featuring performances by some of the region’s top bluegrass bands – Wild Carrot, Comet Bluegrass All-Stars, and The 23 String Band.

For the kids, Bluegrass for Babies is also going to have performances by children’s singer, Jennifer Ellis.

Check her out in this video from last year. The little ones are going to love her.

Now in addition to the music, as we mentioned before, Bluegrass for Babies will have lots of activities for the kiddos. As a matter of fact, this year’s concert-goers can partake in six interactive experiences – Farmer’s Market, Healthy Home, Family Wellness, Art and Music, Movement, and Special Needs.

  • Screen Shot 2013-08-13 at 4.10.05 PMFarScreen Shot 2013-08-13 at 4.10.15 PMmer’s Market: Enjoy local, sustainably raised food from our Green B.E.A.N. Delivery Concession Stands, sample free guacamole from Chipotle, and choose from several locally made desserts. This area will also be the hub of a variety of farm-to-table themed kids’ activities.
  • Healthy Home: Learn simple steps to create a healthier home environment.
  • Family Wellnes: Take part in activities promoting healthy habits and disease prevention.
  • Movement: Burn off energy through exercise activities such as soccer, basketball, and more!
  • Art & Music: Nurture childhood development through numerous art and music activities.
  • Special Needs Quiet Area: In the event of overstimulation, the Special Needs Quiet Area will provide a quiet refuge for special needs children and their families. This area is sponsored by the Merrill Lynch YHSA Group of Dayton.

Oh… and that tasty food we mentioned — kids 12 and under eat free with the purchase of an adult meal from the Green B.E.A.N. Delivery concession stand until 5:30pm. One free kids meal per one purchased adult meal.

Will stop by the special needs quiet are first. My son has autism and this will help him get calm before heading out to the other areas. I am super excited you have this station this year. We came last year and had a great time but this will help us knowing there is an area to help us with our sensory overload!!

  87. Jessica says

    August 15, 2013 at 10:19 am

As the mother of a two-year-old boy, this is a no brainer: Movement! My son loves to dance to music so the chance to run around and kick a soccer ball and get physically active to the sounds of bluegrass playing nearby would be irresistible for him (and for his daddy and me). This sounds like an amazing event–thanks for the opportunity to win!
