Family Friendly Theatre Options in Cincinnati

Fall is definitely here. That means school is back in session, the air is getting crisper, and local theatre seasons are underway. There are so many great theatre companies in town, and they have some fun shows coming up in the next few months.

robin-hoodPlayhouse in the Park opening its Off the Hill Series next week with ROBIN HOOD, running from September 24 – October 30 in community centers throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The series continues in January with AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. The fun, adventurous show will run from January 21 – February 12, 2017 in various community centers. The series closes in April with THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, the classic children’s story, which runs from April 7 – May 21.

Of course, if you’d rather see a show on the main stage at Playhouse in the Park, the winter classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL is back. Tickets go quickly for the show which runs November 23 – December 31.

In January, The Carnegie will stage its annual family-friendly musical, THE MUSIC MAN. The show runs January 19-29 and will feature sets by a local artist and children from The Carnegie’s education programs.

the-little-mermaidLooking for a Broadway tour? the Aronoff has some great shows for families as well. The season begins with THE SOUND OF MUSIC from September 27-October 9, the perfect family friendly musical to kick off your fall. The season continues with the Disney’s beloved, THE LITTLE MERMAID from January 17-29, 2017. We have a feeling these tickets will go quickly, so get them now to brighten gray January days! Following for a limited run from March 10-12, the musical favorite MAMMA MIA! takes to the stage. Closing out the season is yet another favorite movie turned musical, MATILDA. Running April 4-16 the show will entertain everyone in your family.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati is getting ready to kick of its season in October, and they have a great lineup of shows for the family. The season kicked off with ALICE IN WONDERLAND from October 15-23, and follows with a Christmas favorite ELF THE MUSICAL, JR, from December 10 – 18. The new year brings THE WIZARD OF OZ from February 11-19, and TARZAN, THE STAGE MUSICAL based on the Disney film from April 1-9.

The Diary_540x410FinalMark your calendars for the world premiere of CINDERELLA: AFTER EVER AFTER from November 30-December 30 at the Ensemble Theatre. The show continues the story about what happens following happily ever after. It’s a great kick off to the holiday season with your family.

For a more educational show, get tickets to THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Not for the younger kids, the play tells the well-known story of Anne Frank and her family.
