Guest Post: Freestore Foodbank’s Quacky

August 26, 2014 By Shannanb

Please join us in welcoming Quacky to Family Friendly Cincinnati! Quacky is the official mascot for the Freestore Foodbank’s annual Rubber Duck Regatta. Quacky is preparing to celebrate his 20th Birthday on Sunday, August 31 but before then, he took a little break to have some fun and visit with us.  Check it out:

carI decided to take a little break from training for the Freestore Foodbank’s 20th Annual Rubber Duck Regatta and have a little fun before the big event! There are so many great things to do around Cincinnati! My friends picked me up in this year’s first place prize – a 2014 Honda Accord Sport. What a great way to hit the town! Did you know for every duck that you buy –that’s five bucks per duck – you have a chance at winning this awesome car? Plus, you’re helping the Freestore Foodbank provide 15 meals to children and families in need.

We hopped in the Honda and headed to our neighborhood Kroger store. I sure do appreciate all of my friends at Kroger and the great things they do to support the Freestore Foodbank. In fact, the second prize winner of the Rubber Duck Regatta receives a year worth of groceries. That’s a $100 from Kroger each week. Sound ducky to you? Be sure to buy your ducks at the check-out during your next trip to your neighborhood Kroger store and register them online. I was excited to get the chance to thank all of my friends at Kroger.

Quacky visits the ZooFrom there, we moved along to the Cincinnati Zoo to see all of the animals. Of course, my favorite part is the ducks! After touring all of the great exhibits for the better part of the day, my flippers were getting a little tired. So, we decided to go for a relaxing dip at Coney Island. I just love being in the water, and Sunlite Pool is one of the best spots to go for a swim and soak up the sun. We were sure to hit a few water slides, too. It was so much fun! We ended the day by swinging through the Graeter’s drive-thru for a sweet treat before heading home.

Quacky at Great American Ball Park 2The next day, I met up with my friends from the Freestore Foodbank at Great American Ball Park for a Reds game. It was a beautiful afternoon and there were so many people! It was a really exciting game and we even made it on the jumbotron!

Quacky at Bouquet tableThere was one last place I had to visit before going back into training – Bouquet Restaurant in Covington. Chef Stephen Williams really knows his stuff when it comes to healthy food. He’s a great friend of the Freestore Foodbank and served as chef host for the Cincinnati Bengals 2014 Taste of the NFL. What a great guy. I loved stopping by his restaurant.

It’s easy to get busy training for the big regatta, so I was glad I got to spend some time with my friends doing such fun things in our town. It was just enough to recharge me, and I am really excited for Sunday, August 31. Please help me celebrate a milestone year by sending 200,000 of my rubber ducky friends swimming in the Ohio River and be sure to follow me on Facebook to see more of my travels!
