Win tickets to the all new Summer 2014 Show at Krohn Conservatory: Edible Landscapes!

We’ve said goodbye to the butterflies for the year, but there is still so much to see at the Krohn Conservatory and you won’t want tokrohn conservatory edible landscapes logo miss it.  Next up is the summer show ‘Edible Landscapes’ and not only can you visit and see the amazingly beautiful and edible plants, but you can also learn how to cultivate them on your own with many of Krohn’s new workshops and classes!

Here is some information about the show:

The 2014 Summer Show at the Krohn Conservatory features a landscape filled with summer annuals and edible plants.  Included among the plants are fruits and vegetables, edible trees and shrubs, and new, top rated plants from All America Selections.  The show demonstrates how a carefully planned landscape design can create a residential garden that is both attractive and productive. The show designer is Josh Hill, horticulturist at Krohn Conservatory.

New Workshops:

New this year, Krohn is offering workshops in connection with the exhibit.  From Edible Flowers to The Edible Classroom: Aeroponics for Teachers and Family Food Camps, where you can learn more about how to grow and prepare healthy food choices for your family, there’s something for everyone. What is your personal favorite as far as edible plants go?

I’m not talking about your regular run of the mill veggies here…tell me about a plant you’ve discovered is edible but would never have guessed it to be so!  A revelation for me (in middle school, anyway) was that dandelion leaves are edible!  Our science teacher took us out to pick them right out of the yard and then clean and try them out in a salad.  I had NO idea!

    I like dandelion leaves as well. I remember when I was little my dad would make a hot salad out of them with bacon, potatoes and a vinegrette dressing.
