What's Up This Weekend {June 4,5,6}

Another week passes and another weekend pops up with lots of options for family fun. From enjoying the arts at Summerfair to free programs at the Cincinnati Library, this weekend promises to be fun.  As always, if you know of an event in your part of town that other’s need to know about, feel free to leave it in the comments!


Summerfair ~ Head out to Coney Island this weekend for Summerfair! More than 300 artists from across the county as well as an awesome Youth Arts Rocks! area with entertainment, arts & crafts and t-shirt making! Cost is $10, Kids under 12 are FREE! Butterfly Show ~ The International Butterfly Show continues at the Krohn Conservatory through June 20th and features amazing butterflies from Japan. Cost is $6 adults, children under 17, $4.  Family packs are available for $20. Visit their site for details. {Friday, Saturday & Sunday}

Annual Red Leg Run & 5K –– Start off your weekend at Great American Ball Park for their annual 5K event. Includes 2 races options for children! Race ends at homeplate – imagine the thrill that would be to your little all-star– and every participant receive a race T-shirt, post-race party on the Fan Zone and one View Level ticket for the June 7 Reds-Giants game. Click here for details. {Saturday}

Support Local Farmers! ~ It’s that time of year when Farmer ‘s Markets are in full force. From Findlay Market in OTR to the Maderia Farmer’s Market, it’s a great opportunity to teach children about fresh fruits & veggies as well as the important role farmer’s play!  Visit Cincinnati Metromix‘s list of Cincinnati area farmer’s markets to find the one nearest you! {Friday, Saturday, Sunday}

Cincinnati Library Summer Reading Program ~ Lights! Camera! READ! It’s Showtime! The spotlight is on reading this summer as the Cincinnati Library presents “Lights, Camera, READ!” The 2010 Summer Reading Program began June 1 at all 41 Library locations and continues through July 31st. Preschoolers, kids, teens, and adults (as well as entire families) are all invited to be “stars” at your Library. Cincinnati Library Children’s Programs ~

  • Stop by the Corryville Branch Library and get artsy with Debbie Brod. Program runs from 3:00-4:30 p.m., Ages 9-12. 2802 Vine St., 369-6034 {Friday}
  • The Maderia Branch hosts their Parent/Child Book Club.  Call 369-6028 for the book title.  Starts at 4:30 p.m. and is open to parents & children ages 8-12 {Friday}
  • The Main Library hosts Storytime Play: You help tell the story! Takes place in the Children’s Learning Center at 10:30 a.m., Open to children of all ages {Friday}
  • The Main Library hosts Family Storytime: Stories, songs, rhymes & activities for the whole family! Takes place in the Children’s Learning Center at 10:30 a.m., Open to all ages {Saturday}

St. Jude Bridgetown Festival ~ Who doesn’t love a festival!  Rides, games, bid-n-buy and more courtesy of St. Jude Church on Bridgetown Road. Musical guests include Sullivan Janszen Band, The PoleCats & Howl-N-Maxx. Festival is free to attend; visit http://www.stjudebridgetown.org for complete details.  {Friday, Saturday, Sunday}

Kings Soccer Academy Tryouts  ~ Have a soccer player at your house? Kings Soccer Academy hosts tryouts from 9:30am – 2pm at Town and Country Sports and Health Club in Wilder, KY for children ages 8-18. Arrive 30 minutes prior to try-out to receive T-shirt and sign in. Cost is $10; Online registrations required. Visit the Kings Soccer Academy website for complete details.  {Saturday}

Kids Fest ~ Head on down to Sawyer Point this weekend for KidsFest! Hosted by the Cincinnati Recreation Commission, KidsFest includes live entertainment, interactive games, sports, music, crafts and more! Free to attend; Open 11am – 5 pm. Click here for more information. {Friday & Saturday}

Movie Night on Fountain Square – pack up your folding chairs & cooler and head down to Fountain Square for movie night! This Saturday catch Night at the Museum 2 at 7:30pm and/or X-men Origins: Wolverine at 9:30pm.   For more details, click here.  {Saturday}

Family Day at Fountain Square ~ Stop by Fountain Square from 10-12pm for lots of family fun! Children’s organizations from across the Tri-State will be on hand to bring art, music, dance and fitness, animals and a variety of other activities for children to the Square. {Saturday}
