May Events at the Boone County Library

Spring means a lot more sunshine and warm weather but on those days that bring spring showers and leftover winter chill, stop by the library to have a day of fun. Boone County Public Library has many events this month that will keep the little ones all the way to your teenagers entertained. Plan a trip to one of their many branches with this helpful list of events:

WHAT: Teen Café (middle and high school)
WHEN: Wednesdays from 3:15 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
WHERE: Florence Branch
DETAILS: Drop in for gaming, snacks & more!

WHAT: Teen Café (middle and high school)
WHEN: Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Walton Branch.
DETAILS: Drop in for gaming, snacks & more!

WHAT: Minecraft Lab (grade 3-5)
WHEN: Thursday, May 11 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Florence Branch
DETAILS: Play and build your world on the library’s Minecraft server. Registration required.

WHAT: PAWS to Read (grade K-5)
WHEN: Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m.
WHERE: Scheben Branch
DETAILS: Read to one of the library’s therapy dogs. Call the Scheben Branch to schedule your 15-minute time slot.

WHAT: Read It First! YA Review Team (middle and high school)
WHEN: Monday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Main Library
DETAILS: Read new books before they hit the shelves. Publishers and authors will receive your reviews.

WHAT: DIY: Fruit Arrangements (middle and high school)
WHEN: Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Scheben Branch
DETAILS: Cut and craft fruit into an edible design.

WHAT: Sensory Playtime (all ages)
WHEN: Saturday, May 20 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
WHERE: Main Library
DETAILS: Enjoy playtime specially designed for children with sensory sensitivities. Call Karen Harden at 342-2665 ext. 8143 for more information.

 

WHAT: Carnival of Cultures (family)
WHEN: Saturday, May 20 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Florence Branch
DETAILS: Bring the family and enjoy world music, snacks, face painting, regional crafts and a petting zoo!

WHAT: Pages and Paws (grades K-5)
WHEN: Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Main Library
DETAILS: Read to one of the library’s therapy dogs. Call the Main Library to schedule your 15-minute time slot.

WHAT: Pokémon (grades K-12)
WHEN: Monday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Main Library
DETAILS: Gotta catch ‘em all! Bring your own deck or DS; no trading. English cards only. Registration encouraged.

WHAT: Anime and Manga Club (middle and high school)
WHEN: Tuesday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Main Library
DETAILS: Join other otakus for movies, snacks, and kawaii crafts.

WHAT: Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Rosie Red (family)
WHEN: Thursday, May 25 at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Scheben Branch
DETAILS: The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame with Rosie Red presents a wild and wacky introduction to the world of baseball. Join us as we build a baseball field, sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and hear Rosie Red tell the story of “Rosie at the Bat”.

WHEN: Friday, May 26 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Florence Branch
DETAILS: Want to hang out after the Library closes? Now is your chance. Pizza, games, and more!

WHAT: Read with a Teen Training (middle and high school)
WHEN: Tuesday, May 30 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: Scheben Branch
DETAILS: Mandatory training session for all teens interested in volunteering for Read with a Teen, either in the summer or during the school year. Registration and application required.
