Reading Rocks Summer Reading Program

June 4, 2012 By FFCStaff

“Reading Rocks” at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County this summer with their music-themed Summer Reading Program. We love this program not only because reading is so important for our children but also because this is one parents can get in on the action with as well.

We’re behind the 8 ball in announcing this to all of you. The program started on June 1, but you still have plenty of time to sign up as this runs through July 31. If you participated last year, this year you can simply re-activate your registration.  Just visit http://www.cincinnatilibrary.org/summerread, choose your age group from the drop-down menu, click on “Sign Me Up”, then click on “Signed Up Before?” and enter your username and PIN from last year.  Then you’re ready to start tracking your reading.

Here’s what you need to do. Starting now, you can track you and your child’s reading on-line.  For every five books that are read for the preschool and kid level OR for every four hours read for you or your teen, a level is then completed. Once a level is complete, visit any Library location to collect a prize.  Here’s a list of the prizes:

Preschool – Birth to Age 5

  • Level 1 – Book
  • Level 2 – Rock Star Duck
  • Level 3 – Inflatable Guitar
  • Level 4 – Maracas and an entry into the grand prize drawing

This year’s grand prizes are better than ever. Participants who reach Level 4 by June 30 will be entered in a drawing to win a family four-pack of tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game! Participants who reach Level 4 by July 31 will be entered to win a LeapFrog Tag Reading System and tickets to a performance by the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras!

After your child has completed Level 4, keep reading for the chance to earn more entries into the grand prize drawing! For each additional 5 books read, your child will earn another entry.

Kids – Recommended Grades K-5

There’s More Fun Throughout the Summer

Look up your local branch or refer to the library program calendar to find out what’s going on in your neighborhood this summer!

Lots of fun programs and activities are going to be happening all over our Library system this summer. Here’s a sample of the lineup:

  • Frisch Marionettes Variety Show
  • The Magic of Tom Bemmes
  • The Music of Zak Morgan
  • Harp Instruction with Holly’s Harps
  • Rockin’ Science with Crystal Clear Science
  • Hip Hop Dancing
  • Honey Hill Farm Petting Zoo
  • Cool Critters Outreach
  • ArtReach workshops with the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati
  • Music Trivia with Last Call Productions
  • Renaissance Music with Catacoustic Consort

This is going to be a great summer to check in and get involved with your local library or go and visit another library near you. My kids love to do this to see how different branches display their books and to see what each brand has to offer.

Now get out there and read!!!

Your customers can communicate with you. Home inspectors do not get themselves

    comes time to replace!
