There is so much stuff to do in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area this weekend!  From library birthday celebrations to art classes and even skating fun!  Many events are free, so be sure to read carefully and some require reservations, so don’t miss that!  Whatever you dos this weekend, have fun and stay safe.

Friday

Paint-a-Jello Mold Flower at Broadhope Art Collective 6:30pm-8:30pm.  Create a flower out of upcycled jello molds that are pre-assembled for you. Justin and Brittany supply you with the paint and guide you through the decorating and finishing process for a finished product place outside year round. Recommended for ages 12 & up, 8 & up with adult assistance. All materials provided.  Cost is $25.  Register at Broadhope Art Collective’s website.

Visit Lettuce Eat Well – Farmer’s Market – 3:00pm-7:00pm at Cheviot United Methodist Church for fresh seasonal goodies!library books image


Hang out at the Mason Public Library, check out some books and other materials and catch Story Time 10:15am-10:45am.  This is a free event.


Love to roller skate?  Take the whole family for Family Skate at Skatetown USA 6:00pm-8:00pm. 8730 N Pavillion West Chester, OH‎


DKenton County Library Logoon’t miss Kenton County Public Library’s Booker Buddy Club Celebration   Members are invited to join us at 6:30 pm at the Erlanger Branch to celebrate Booker’s birthday! 

There will be a visit from Wild Thing, from Maurice Sendak’s popular book Where the Wild Things Are. There will be plenty of birthday festivities, snacks, and fun. Don’t forget to bring your camera to snap a shot with Booker and Wild Thing!  Please register on line.

Saturday

Visit the Boone County Community Activities Fair, where everything is FREE!  10:00am-2:00pm at the Boone County Farmers Market Lot at the corner of KY18 and Camp Ernst Road.  There will be more than 30 informational booths about activities in Boone County.  This is a free, family friendly event that is open to the public.  Some of the things you can do:

  • Drop off prescription drugs-Florence Police

  • Learn about energy awareness-UK

  • Summer camp info-YMCA, BC Parks and Rec and BCES

  • Explore how to earn your GED or learn English as a Second Language

  • Practice your golf swing-World of Sports

  • Barn Quilt Trail- Florence Women’s Club

  • Herbs and their uses- NKY Herb Society

  • Sample healthy snacks- PEP and BCES Homemakers

  • Talk to the sheriff’s staff about their mounted patrol

  • Have your child’s vision checked- Hebron Lion’s Club

  • Volunteer Opportunities- Friends of BCA, Florence Women’s Club, BCES, Boone County Garden Club and others

  • Learn about the BCPL services -Play in bounce houses with BC Parks and Rec Staff -Groove to the tunes of Velvet Soul 

FWE Craft FairJoin Fort Wright Elementary for their first Craft Fair 10:00am-3:00pm at 501 Farrell Drive in Fort Wright, KY.  A variety of crafters and vendors will come together to sell their items just in time for Spring & Summer.   There will be concessions as well as raffles, it’s sure to be a fun event!  Free parking – Free admission – more than 30 vendors including Thirty One, Scentsy, Tupperware, Origami Owl and more.  Hand made crafts include hand made cards - recycle tshirt scarves, headbands and jewelry – baby quilts – wreaths – hair bows – and more!

Come for the whole day or just part of the day and join the Doe Run Lake & Nature Trail Clean-Up, part of the Great American Cleanup and Let’s G.O.! (Get Outside) Initiative!  Clean up begins at 9:00am.  Rubber gloves and trash bags will be provided. Wear boots or old shoes and old clothes. It will be messy! Volunteers will collect and remove everything that should not be found in a County park, including trash, construction debris, automobile and truck tires, old fishing line, and an odd assortment of other objects not usually associated with Nature and the outdoors.  We will have our ‘Most Unusual Find’ Contest again and it’s always exciting! One year, it was a bowling ball; another year, it was two halves of an electric guitar! Who knows what we’ll discover this time around? Need community service hours? We will be happy to sign your paperwork. A picnic lunch for all volunteers will follow at about noon.  1501 Bullock Pen Rd., Covington, KY 41017.

Celebrate Cincinnati Earth Day  at Sawyer Point 12:00pm-5:00pm Saturday.  This is a free event.  Earth Day Celebration activities this year may include: exhibitors with hands-on displays representing environmental groups, government agencies and businesses; Rock-Climbing Wall, Kayak Paddle Safety Pool; baby animals from Farmer Frank’s Sunrock Farms; Mother Earth and story telling; a children’s fashion show with creations made with recycled material; entertainment from local bands throughout the day, and the  Planet Protector Parade where young ones can create their very own  Earth Day flag, and much, much more.


Lollipop Concert – Waiting for Wings - 10:30 a.m. (pre-show fun at 9:30 a.m.) – Music Hall. What’s   a sure sign of Spring? Robins, flowers and…butterflies! Enjoy a   vibrant celebration of the season with a musical adaptation of Lois   Ehlert’s timeless children’s book Waiting for Wings by Jason Robert Brownand Georgia Stitt. Adults $12 and children $7.


Puppetry Day – Happen, Inc. hosts the Cincinnati Area Puppet Guild – Performance by local puppeteers & Wump Mucket Puppets. Noon – 3 p.m.  This is a free event.  4201 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati.


BlueManateeManatots – Blue Manatee Children’s Bookstore – FREE story time for ages up to 4 years – 9:30 a.m (held every Saturday).


Open Studio – Happen, Inc. – Enjoy Pancakes and Puppets at 10:00am. Watch your favorite puppet videos and eat pancakes as we serve up the laughs and warm up at Happen for the National Puppet Celebration starting at 12:00pm.


Visit IKEA in West Chester for free kids crafts by The Art Spark 11:00am-3:00pm.  Miss Jacquelyn and Miss Emily are art educators that offer children many ways to explore art.

Disney Cinderella Kids – The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati – Taft Theatre - Check website for Saturday show times.  We saw this show last Friday night and all the kids loved it…even my nine year old son!


Family Day – Painting with a Twist – “Baby Bird” - 1:00pm-3:00pm.  FAMILY DAY is for artists 7 and up.  !!  This is a 2 Hour and it class begins PROMPTLY at start time indicated for your painting!  Cost is $35 and you must register on line.


Kids Night Out - Countryside YMCA – 5:00pm – 9:00pm – RSVP.  Drop of your kids and let them have some fun while you enjoy a night out!  $20 for 1 child, $30 for 2 children, $40 for 3 or more children.


The Little Gym Mason – Parent’s Survival Night - 5:00pm – 9:00pm – RSVP.  Another opportunity for a night out while your kids enjoy a night out as well!  Members: $25.00, Non-Members: $30.00.

bake-me-home-slideshowBake Me Home Fundraiser Making the World a Better Place, One Cookie at a Time 4:00pm-9:00pm at Coldstream Country Club 400 Asbury Road, Cincinnati OH 45255.  This event will feature specialty products from 20 local vendors, food samples, complimentary soft drinks and a cash bar.

Cooking demonstrations will be held with Amy Tobin will at 5:00 pm and Renee Schuler at 7:00 pm. Live music will also be performed by Ben Waltz. Admission is free – donations appreciated.

Bake Me Home is a non-profit organization started by Amy and Emma Bushman when they were 7 years old (they’re now 11). With mom Alison Bushman helping out, these girls serve families from 14 agencies in the greater Cincinnati area — including homeless shelters, food pantries and battered women’s shelters.

 

Sunday

Make your own eco-friendly cleaning supplies with Spring “Green” Cleaning Sunday at Broadhope Art Collective.  It’s common to see lots of “green” cleaners on the shelves at the store these days. Did you know you can make your own for a fraction of the price and with natural ingredients? Come make your own cleaning supplies in this class – we will make each of the following: laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, counter disinfectant AND a lovely scented soy candle in a vintage glassware vessel. This is a class that can get messy, so be prepared to get a little dirty so you can help get your house clean the green way!Recommended for ages 12 and up, 6 and up with an adult. All supplies included in price of class. 11:30am-1:30pm $25.  Please register online.

Lets Break Glass!! Learn basic skills of cutting glass, foil wrap, and simple welding iron in this class titled Stained Glass Dragon Fly at  Broadhope Art Collective.  If you are ready to break glass without feeling remorse, then this is for you! Come explore the art of stained glass with the artists from Sharp Art. You’ll have a great time, and have a gorgeous garden stake decoration to take home when you’re finished!! Ages 12 to adult, class size limited to 6, all materials provided.  2:00pm-4:30pm $25 Please register online.
